Q&A: WordPress question; how do you show only a few lines of a post on the front page?

Frage von : WordPress question; how do you show only a few lines of a post on the front page?
I have a wordpress blog, and when I post an article, the entire article shows up on the front page, no matter how long it is. I want only 3-4 lines to show, so that the reader has to click on it to see the whole article. I have tried to fill in the “excerpt” box, but I didn’t see any changes.

So please, anyone with WordPress experience, 10 points will be given to the right answer!

In your Main Index Template (index.php), somewhere within The Loop, you’ll find

Change this to read:

The default excerpt is 55 words. If you want to change this length, you have to add a filter to functions.php.

There is no database option in the wordpress dashboard. You shouldn’t need to go into the database unless your changing hosts or something. What do you need to do to the database manually?

The reason that most people do it is that they like to be in control of all their own stuff. Because it can be quite complex and expensive I think they tend to be techie guys, probably that work in the industry that know what they are doing. Personally I use http://www.terapad.com which is a hosted service, but its 100% free and has more features than wordpress. You can ad adsense in as well no problem, I have seen people do it with their Terapad sites ( see http://www.terapad.com/net for examples ). I want to have it so when I post on my blog at WordPress, it will automatically post the same blog on my MySpace page. I know there is a way to do this with forums and bulletin boards – posting on WordPress and having it show up in the forums.

Typically cutting and pasting the URL link to your MySpace or Facebook accounts should work. IF not, you should research the WordPress FAQ page, or even the FAQ for MySpace and Facebook. Good luck.

I manage a wordpress site that requires plenty of contents to be submitted. Is there a plugin or a way to increase the amount of submission forms so I can submit like, say, 5 posts per submission? Each of the forms needs their individual title, tag and excerpt forms too.

I’ve never seen one, but maybe you should learn how to write a WP plugin and write one to do that.
